Toyota Motor Philippines expects strong Fortuner, Hilux sales

With the recent launch of the refreshed Toyota Fortuner and Hilux, Toyota Motor Philippines is optimistic about the sales of both nameplates as the Japanese carmaker strives to attain its 10th consecutive Triple Crown title.

"We might have lost a couple of months because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan but we're happy to say that we're back on track to getting our 10th consecutive Triple Crown title at the end of the year," said Toyota Philippines first vice president for marketing Raymond Rodriguez.

Rodriguez added that with the public debut of the new Fortuner and Hilux at the Toyota Tent Event this weekend, Toyota Philippines expects to fortify its hold as the top carmaker in terms of sales in the months to come. For the Hilux, Toyota is expecting to move 600 units out of its showrooms every month. For the Fortuner, the carmaker is eyeing its sales to be at around 900 units for the same period.

Along with the Innova, both the Fortuner and Hilux are part of Toyota's Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle platform so with the launch of the refreshed midsize SUV and compact pickup, a question that needed to be asked is when the refreshed Innova will be launched. According to Rodriguez, it won't be this year.

"We're still working on the details for the new Innova but it definitely won't be launched this year," said Rodriguez. "We're not sure exactly when but it'll be sometime next year, probably the first half."

The current-generation Hilux first entered the Philippine market in 2004 and has sold over 22,000 units since while the Fortuner was introduced a year later and has sold nearly 43,000 units.
