Volvo marks 16 years in the Philippines

This calls for a celebration

The recent arrival of the all-new Volvo S60 marked the perfect occasion for Viking Cars to celebrate its 16th year as the authorized distributor and dealers of Volvo cars in the Philippines.

Volvo first opened its doors at its Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo Extension) dealership in 1994 when it introduced the 850 series. It was closely followed by the launch of the 960 in 1995.

Volvo in the Philippines proved to be a strong market performer as it received the Volvo Diamond Award as the best importer from among twenty-three competing countries of Volvo Car International. It made history as the first importer to win the award within its first full year of operations.

In May 2005, Viking Cars entered into a partnership with Pasajero Motor Corporation to open a Volvo dealership in Cebu to answer the need of the burgeoning premium car market in the province and other nearby cities.

Several Volvo vehicles have made it to the Philippines through Viking cars and Volvo has long been established as one of the leading luxury car brands in the local market today. In 2009, Volvo Philippines brought in the XC60, the world’s first car that can stop itself. This year, Volvo introduced the all-new S60, which comes with another groundbreaking piece of engineering: the Pedestrian Detection Technology.
