We've shown you a video on how to drive a Ferrari 458 Italia. Now we'll show you how Ferrari assembles the 4.5-liter V8 engine that powers this mid-engined supercar.

As the 458 Italia's engine is made in the same production line that assembles the powerplant of the Ferrari California and the Maseratis, great care is taken when it comes to putting everything together. Though much of the assembly is done by hand, computerized equipment make sure that each step of the process is done accurately. Just how precise, you ask? According to one of the mechanics on the video, the 458 Italia's crankshaft is one of the very few "that's balanced to within one gram for each level of balance."

The video details almost everything in the assembly process, from when a computer places the bearings before the crankshaft is put in to the time it is placed on a test bench and run through a three-phase run-in that will take three hours and see the engine's revs go up to 9,000rpm.
