What is the best barometer of economic prosperity?
Do not waste your time checking what GDP means on Google. Just look around you. The plush houses in exclusive villages, expensive jewelry, high-end cars, or signature clothes are most likely the first things that enter your mind when you think opulence.
You might disagree, but people in other regions, like those from Visayas and Mindanao, say that when you see premium brand motorcycles thriving in their territory, then it’s a sign that local people now have deep pockets.
And this was validated with the most recent event of Harley-Davidson of Cebu.
Thirty-eight Harley-Davidson motorbikes revved engines on the once quiet roads of Cebu before taking a roll-on, roll-off (RO-RO) vessel to the Nasipit Port in Agusan del Norte. From Butuan City, they were joined by more than 20 H-D riders from Mindanao before proceeding to Davao City.
The participants, all wearing Harley Owners Group (HOG) leather vests, took a relaxing cruise on Mindanao’s well-paved roads while exchanging endless tales of camaraderie and brotherhood. It didn't matter whether they were mounted on old-school or modern Harleys. The locals gathered on the streets upon hearing the loud engine roars to take videos of the long convoy of exotic bikes, including new models priced between P1 million to P3 million each.
Regan King, Harley-Davidson of Cebu dealer principal, initiated the 2019 H-D Freedom
Ride as a prelude to the formal opening of the Harley-Davidson of Davao City showroom on April 27, 2019.
The opening of this world-class facility, he said, signals the tilting of economic progress to this southern region of the country which is fast becoming a motorcyclists’ destination. “This is our new habitat,” he emphasized.
