Last weekend, media personnel—Moto Sapiens included, of course—were invited to the launch of Kawasaki Philippines’ newest showroom at Wheeltek Laguna.

The new facilities house the latest big bikes from the Japanese motorcycle makers lineup, including the Vulcan S, Ninja 650, Ninja 1000, Versys 1000, and Versys 1000 SE. But these models and the new showroom weren’t the only highlights of the night, no—Kawasaki treated us to the reveal of a refreshed bike as well.

The bike we’re talking about is no less than the 2020 Kawasaki W800. It was first made available a few years back, and Kawasaki has now made the refreshed model available in the Philippine market.

The new-look W800 was first unveiled during the 2019 Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) show, which is why its sudden introduction this weekend comes as a slight surprise. Bikes revealed at international motor shows like EICMA take several months (even a year for some) before they reach Philippine shores, so this early arrival means that industry giants like Kawasaki are now prioritizing the allocation of units to the booming market here in the Philippines. Anyway, before we stray even further from the topic, let’s go take a look at this newly-launched model, shall we?

This retro bike sports classic styling from front to rear. The round headlight fitted with chrome trims is flanked by signal lamps that sport the same finish. The tank features sleek decals with the fuel tank cover and the embossed Kawasaki ‘W’ badge covered in chrome. The saddle, on the other hand, has been stitched with black leather with a subtle white accent. Lastly, completing the retro look are the analog gauge clusters—this wouldn’t feel vintage with a digital display, right?

Powering the W800 is a 773cc air-cooled, fuel-injected, vertical twin engine that generates 47.5hp at 6,500rpm and 60Nm at 2,500rpm and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
