It’s been a good ride

It’s not a headline we enjoy writing, but Austrian motorcycle brand KTM, which is distributed in the Philippines by Ayala subsidiary ACMobility, is closing what used to be its flagship KTM BGC dealership effective October 1, 2024.

The Bonifacio Global City facility opened its doors in 2016 to much fanfare. Unlike other dealerships, it not only provided both sales and service operations, but also had some of the best merch available to the motorcycle-riding public. It also had a very healthy aftermarket selection available in-store, which was in stark contrast to other dealerships that focused mainly on in-house accessories.

More than just a shop, KTM BGC also had a great lounge-like feel, with coffee readily available to accompany the great conversations you would have with Team Orange members, all of whom were more than happy to talk anything and everything two wheels.

This is why we are sad to see that, after eight years of operation, KTM BGC announced its closure on its official Facebook page.

While we can’t say we didn’t see it coming, we’re still saddened by the shuttering. KTM has had its highs and lows when it comes to its Philippine existence. From being attached to another brand before, to distributors disappearing, to crazy fire sales as Ayala stepped in, we were always hoping that ACMobility would be able to bring a semblance of stability to the brand—and for a time, it seemed this was working. Ayala opened a manufacturing facility for both domestic and export sales, dealers were popping up left and right, and their prices were extremely competitive.

Cracks started to show when, earlier this year, we saw some industry friends posting fire sales online. Brand-new KTM units were being offloaded at huge discounts—something that has always been a hallmark of a brand in distress.

Our fears were confirmed when KTM BGC’s post made things official, announcing their ceasing of sales and service operations. The post was quick to assure KTM buyers and owners that other branches—KTM Makati, KTM Muntinlupa, KTM Cainta, among others—will still remain operational.

The post also stated that for license plate and LTO concerns, owners can drop by Honda Cars Makati and look for Ms. Shawi Cuenca (reachable at +632 8424-4994 local 708).

At the very least, there are assurances that the brand will continue to service its existing customer base, which may mean there is some hope yet for orange fans in the Philippines.

“We’ll always treasure the memories,” the post said in conclusion. And as a former KTM owner who frequented KTM BGC, I will, too.
