Formula 1 contenders are scrambling to get as much mileage as they can as the winter test session of the series kicks off today. Team Lotus is the second team to unveil its F1 car after Ferrari took off the wraps of the F150 last January 28.
Dubbed as the T128, the Lotus car abandons the Cosworth engine used by its predecessor and will use Renault’s powerplant and a Red Bull-developed transmission system.
"The launch of the T128 is a big step forward for Team Lotus and I want to thank the whole team for the amount of hard work that has already gone into the car, and I want to thank Renault and Red Bull Technology for their tremendous support in helping us make this step forward and for being such great team partners," said team principal Tony Fernandes.
Team Lotus is hoping the T128 will bring in the first championship points for the group in the 2011 season of Formula 1.
"I think that basically this car looks like a front-running car in every area," Lotus chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne noted. "We said very clearly that we want to start challenging the established teams and I think that's very achievable."
