Carjacking incident

Four suspected members of a carjack gang were killed while their other companion managed to escape following a shootout with police authorities who were manning a checkpoint in Caloocan City on July 5.

Police said that two of the suspects were declared dead on the spot. The two other suspects died while undergoing treatment at the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center due to bullet wounds from M-16 rifles and .45 caliber handguns.

One of the slain suspects was identified as Michael Casiguran, 34, resident of Block 17, Lot 1, Bagong Nayon, Quezon City.

According to SPO2 Joel Montebon, the Tactical Operation Unit received a report around 12:24am that five armed men stole a Se7ven taxi cab (Toyota Vios) with license plate TYU 560 along A. Mabini St., May Pajo, Caloocan City.

Elements of the anti-carnapping unit led by Senior Inspector Allan Emlano and a Special Weapons and Tactics team immediately established checkpoints in critical areas where they spotted the white taxi along 12th Avenue, Biglang Awa St., Barangay 96 and 97, Caloocan City.

Instead of heeding to the demand of police authorities to pull over at the checkpoint, the suspects allegedly fired shots at the lawmen while trying to escape from the scene and this triggered a firefight between the two groups.
