Former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. is reported to have a net worth of only P11 million based on his 2002 statement of assets and liabilities but the fleet of vehicles found by military men in his property indicates otherwise.
Soldiers discovered a Hummer, a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Chevrolet Suburban, a GMC luxury truck, two Toyota Hilux pickup trucks, a Ford F-150, an Isuzu D-Max, and a Toyota Hiace van at an old horse stable in the Ampatuan compound, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
TopGear.com.ph estimates the vehicles are worth between P14 million to a little over P26 million, depending on the year and the condition of the cars.
The Inquirer quoted an Army colonel who was part of the raiding team exclaiming "What an arrogant display of wealth!" After all, Maguindanao is one of the country's three poorest provinces.
In another report, ABS-CBN said the Ampatuans' wealth could reach up to at least P1.3 billion, considering that aside from the vehicles, the clan also owns several properties in Maguindanao, Davao City, and in Metro Manila.
