Members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) are having a fine year so far, registering a 27-percent growth from January to July by selling 18,017 units, or 3,822 units more compared to the 14,195 units sold in the same period last year. Boosting AVID's overall sales figures was the passenger car segment, which grew by 52 percent to 10,906 units--from 7,180 units sold in the same period last year.
For July, AVID members registered 2,218 unit sales from 1,871 units sold in the same month last year. Topping the sales charts in July was Hyundai Asia Resources with 1,530 units, followed by The Covenant Car Company (Chevrolet) at 388 units, and Motor Image Pilipinas (Subaru) at 188 units.
CATS Motors (Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep), meanwhile, sold 76 units, while Scandinavian Motors (Volvo) moved 26 units. British United Automobiles (Mini) managed just 10 units.
"Riding on the momentum of an upbeat business and economic landscape, AVID members, with their roster of sellable quality models, have maintained highly competitive sales figures versus overall industry sales," said AVID president Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo. "Marked by sustained marketing efforts and excellent customer service, AVID expects to hit even better numbers for the remaining five months of 2012."
