Koreans may be making headway in the automotive design arena but they're not the only ones getting recognition for their vehicles' looks. German carmaker BMW also recently received red dot design awards for three of its vehicles.
red dot's panel of design professionals gave the all-new X3 an honorable mention award while the 6-Series Convertible was given the award-giving body's outstanding design award. The big winner from the Germans, however, was the 5-Series Touring, which bagged red dot's "best of the best" award in the automobiles, transport and caravans category.
"We are very happy to have demonstrated through the BMW 5-Series Touring that functionality can be translated into appealing design. In this way, BMW blends outstanding functionality with a particularly modern and emotional aesthetic," said Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group’s senior vice president of design.
BMW is no stranger to receiving red dot awards. In 2010, the German carmakers won eleven awards, four more than what it won in 2009. BMW also received two "best of the best" awards for the BMW 3-Series Convertible and the BMW G 450 X motorcycle.
