In a market filled to the brim with crossovers of all shapes, sizes, and powertrains, you would that at some point, it starts to get saturated, right? Chevrolet Philippines appears to believe otherwise, as it apparently wants a piece of that pie. It has now launched its all-new subcompact crossover, the Groove.

The Chevrolet Groove goes up against the likes of the Toyota Yaris Cross, measuring 4,365mm long, 1,750mm wide, and 1,610mm tall with a 2,550mm wheelbase and 155mm of ground clearance. It boasts a stylish exterior with a design similar to that of its Tracker and Trax siblings, albeit looking a bit boxier on the front end and sportier all around.

The inside is a mix of leather and hard plastics. The cabin is mostly finished in black, with a few accents of red stitching and silver trim here and there, and it also has an added sunroof up top. Space is as what you’d expect from a model in this segment—it’s decent for four passengers, with a little room left for a fifth.

Under the hood, the Groove packs a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbopetrol pushing out 148hp at 5,200rpm and 255Nm of torque at 1,600-3,600rpm. This is mated to a continuously variable transmission.

The lone variant available comes equipped with a full suite of advanced driver-assist systems which includes adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning and assist, and emergency lane-keeping. It also has hill-start assist and a tire-pressure monitoring system to go along with a reversing camera and three rear-parking sensors. Six airbags come as standard.

The all-new Chevrolet Groove stickers for an introductory price of P1,156,000. No word yet on when that initial price tag will change, nor on how much it will adjust. In any case, it’s now available in our market, and with its pricing, it’ll stack up against the Toyota Raize and Kia Sonet.
