Hyundai has just pulled the wraps off the all-new Tucson, and we now know that it will be offered with three distinct powertrains. As previously reported, the parallel hybrid and ICE options will remain, but Hyundai has officially added a plug-in hybrid configuration to the lineup.

While plug-in hybrid power is not new to the Tucson, Hyundai has improved its performance and capability. From 284hp on the outgoing model, the new Tucson PHEV gets a punchier 288hp. And in terms of electric driving range, the crossover is rated for 81km, up from 70km.

Other specifications include 380Nm of torque, four-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a 17.1kWh battery. Hyundai has yet to disclose the engine size on the plug-in hybrid version, but it’s worth noting that the other configurations use 1.6-liter turbocharged mills.

In terms of speed, Hyundai says that the Tucson PHEV can complete the 100kph sprint in 7.9sec, making it the snappiest variant in the lineup. Strangely, it also boasts a 1,910kg towing capacity, but we don’t think Tucson owners are really hauling heavy equipment—though do prove us wrong if we are.

Hyundai has yet to mention which countries will receive this version of the Tucson. The crossover is set to go on sale in South Korea later this year, after which North America and Europe will get second dibs in 2027. Australia is also set to receive the Tucson next year, but that release will be limited to the hybrid and XRT variants.

As we wait for Hyundai Motor Philippines to make its official announcement regarding the new Tucson, we’ll pass the question on to you: Which variants should enter the local market? Additionally, would you want a plug-in hybrid option? The comment section is yours.
