Love it or hate it, Hyundai has applied a cohesive design language throughout its entire stable. ‘Sensuous Sportiness,’ as it’s called, is easily recognizable through wide, rectangular grilles, sharp accents, and those long light bars Hyundai calls ‘Seamless Horizons.’ A car as big as the Palisade or as compact as the Elantra can be quickly identified as a Hyundai. These Korean cars just stand out.

Which is why when Hyundai Motor Philippines brought back the subcompact Venue, it stood out for the wrong reasons. It had retained the old chrome finishes and the more rounded shape of previous Hyundai models. When propped next to the all-new Kona and Creta crossovers, it looked like an aged gatecrasher in Hyundai’s sensuous and sporty party.

But over in India, the Venue has finally received a proper redesign, falling in line with the rest of the Hyundai stable. Now sporting Seamless Horizon light bars and that wide grille, the Venue looks like a shrunken version of the Creta. It also adds some rugged styling with a skid plate under the grille.

The interior also gets a major redesign, with dual-curved panoramic displays for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. There is a terrazzo finish across the dash, complemented by a two-tone color scheme throughout the cabin. Those same colors are also found on the front and rear seats. The brand’s full package of advanced driver-assistance systems, Hyundai SmartSense, is also on board.

And this isn’t just a facelift, as the Venue is also getting more powertrain variants and transmission options. Buyers in India can choose between a 1.2-liter gasoline engine, a 1.0-liter turbocharged powerplant, and a 1.5-liter diesel mill. Exact power outputs have yet to be revealed, but automatic, manual, and dual-clutch transmissions are also available. There also seems to be a Venue N Line variant in the works, but that may be the turbocharged configuration.
