Isuzu has unveiled its latest one-off collaboration with Arctic Trucks which could preview the future of its hardcore, go-anywhere, do-anything grade vehicles. This one’s called the AT37, and it’s…gargantuan. So gargantuan that it’s Isuzu’s largest-ever product, and instantly graduates to the throne room of the D-Max lineup with many interesting modifications.

Nestled beneath the swollen wheel arches is a set of thirty-seven-inch BFGoodrich tyies. There’s an advanced 10-position adjustable suspension in there somewhere too, supported by a ride height lift of 5.5 inches over the standard D-Max. All this means the AT37 should laugh in the face of the world’s dunes and swamps and curbs.

Arctic Trucks has also thrown in an upgraded set of front and rear differentials, while Isuzu has gone to town with reinforcing the frame with what we're assuming is more steel. Or aluminum. Or steel and aluminum.

The added muscle is masked by the entirely subtle exterior, which boasts a heavy-duty bar and triple fog light out front. The roof rack has a seriously imposing light bar attached to recreate the effects of a solar flare from our nearest star, and right behind that, you’ll find a storage box for, er, storage.

No details as yet regarding the powertrain, so we’re going to assume it's a spruced-up version of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine found in the standard car. We’ve no idea why, but we think it’ll likely produce more than the original 160hp and 400Nm of torque in this guise.

Alan Able, Isuzu UK MD, said: “The Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT37 is a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the realm of utility vehicles. It embodies the spirit of adventure and resilience that Isuzu owners have come to expect.”

And here are a few words from his opposite number at Arctic Trucks, Peter Smith: “Our long-standing collaboration with Isuzu has been a true meeting of minds. The AT37 represents the culmination of over three decades of relentless innovation and adventure-driven design philosophy.”

It’s being displayed at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, following which we sincerely hope it makes production.
