Earlier this week, we wrote about the newly launched Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. The car combines the tidy lines of the compact C-Class with the sexy form of a two-door coupe. But what everyone is really waiting for is the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, and it has just been revealed.
You can tell the AMG-spec Coupe apart from its more sedate sibling by the former’s flared wheel arches, larger wheels, and an overall increase in track width front and rear. More aggressiveness can be seen in the revised front fascia, as well as the new hood that even has two powerdomes, hinting at what lies underneath.
And what throbs beneath that hood is a 3,982cc bi-turbo V8 engine that puts out 510hp at 5,500-6,250rpm and 700Nm at 1,750-4,500rpm. This results in a 0-100kph sprint time of just 3.9 seconds. Those are the numbers for the S variant (there’s a slightly tamer non-S version that has 34hp less output and 50Nm less torque). The engine is pretty much the same one used in the awesome Mercedes-AMG GT, so you can imagine just how potent this lump is.
The engine is enhanced by a host of hardware that allows it to really flex its muscles. It is paired with the AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed gearbox, and this makes for lightning-quick shifts when the driver wishes to play. Aural delight can be had thanks to an exhaust system with flap technology. This means you can vary the sound coming out of the tailpipes, depending on your mood and the neighborhood you’re in. It’s even got a specially tuned suspension with available ride control and adjustable dampers. Thus, you can tune your car’s ride and handling to your liking.
Speaking of tuning, the new C63 Coupe also features Mercedes’s Dynamic Select mode system. This lets the driver choose between preselected modes for comfort, economy and everyday drivability. Of course, for real men who dare drive this beast, the setting to try is the race mode.
Needless to say, safety isn’t forgotten. The new AMG comes with such tech goodies as Collision Prevention Assist Plus, in addition to the usual alphabet soup of Merc safety systems. It is basically there to watch over drivers who might just get carried away while having too much fun.
The new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will make its world debut at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show next month. Deliveries will begin in March 2016. This is one Merc we’re confident Philippine distributor Auto Nation Group will bring in.
