If you often drive down south via EDSA, you may have noticed a massive LED billboard playing MG advertisements on loop. If that isn’t proof enough that the British nameplate has found a home here in the Philippines, maybe its presence at the 2019 Manila International Auto Show is.

The carmaker took MIAS 2019 as an opportunity to officially launch the MG 6—its sleek and sexy new fastback. We saw it in the metal at the show, and we’ve reviewed the car as well. We have to say it truly is a looker.

The MG 6 flaunts a presence that’s a mix of both professional and sporty. Up front, you have a large, intricate grille design capping off a long hood, flanked by a pair of large angry headlights. The fastback silhouette jives particularly well with a red paint finish, and lends the vehicle an energetic demeanor, we think.

Meanwhile, the interior’s a little busier and more playful than the outside of the car suggests. There’s nice leather covering the dashboard, plus aluminum pedals, carbon-fiber bits, and even a sunroof. Also worth noting is the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Underneath the hood of the MG 6 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine capable of 164hp and a juicy 250Nm of torque. This will come mated only to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The model is available in just two variants, and you can check out their official prices below:

2019 MG 6

  1. MG 6 1.5 TST Alpha – P1,068,888
  2. MG 6 1.5 TST Trophy – P1,188,888

If you’re on the hunt for an alternative to our country’s run-of-the-mill compact sedans, the MG 6 is worth looking into. You can also check out the other models in MG’s current stable.
