Good news for car shoppers looking into buying a new SUV. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has just announced that the Montero Sport—which placed second in our annual Car of the Year voting—is getting a new variant: the 2WD GLX MT.
The newest entry of the popular Japanese midsize SUV is a two-wheel drive spec with a six-speed manual transmission. It's powered by the same burly 2.4-liter diesel engine capable of 178hp and 430Nm. With its introduction into the lineup, the total number of Montero Sport options available now stands at five vehicles.
Just like the GLS, this one comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, projector-type headlamps, and daytime running lights, among other features. The SUV comes in Savanna White, Sterling Silver Metallic, Virgil Gray, Deep Bronze Metallic, Sedona Red, Mystic Blue and Pyrenese Black paint jobs. The Montero Sport 2WD GLX MT can be had for an introductory price of P1.28 million, and it comes with a three-year or 100,000km warranty.
Will a more affordable, manual transmission Montero Sport variant entice car buyers to drive one home? At the very least, it's now worth considering for those on a budget. Speaking of budget, if you've been following the news, you'll remember that the company is set to increase the prices of its vehicles—Montero Sport included—by up to P20,000 in the near future. So if you're planning to buy one, think fast.
