The all-new Chevrolet Spark city car and refreshed Trax crossover are now available in our market. Chevrolet Philippines held the launch of the two vehicles during the first day of the 2017 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) in what was one of the most sizeable displays in the entire event.
The Spark is the American carmaker's entry into the highly competitive small car segment. Its more mature demeanor is highlighted by an edgier front-end with a two-part front-grille, angrier headlights, and chrome accents around the foglights. The car has a pretty quirky feel to it inside, despite the minimalist, monochromatic layout and color. Other niceties include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and six speakers. It's small, practical, and worth checking out if you happen to be at MIAS.
Underneath the Spark's hood is a 1.4-liter engine capable of 98hp and 128Nm. It will come in three variants, one of which has a 5-speed manual transmission. The rest will be mated to a CVT. You can get the car in a wide array of colors, though we think the new Mint My Mind shade looks particularly good on it. Below are the official variants and prices:
*Chevrolet Spark 1.4L LT MT – P648,888
*Chevrolet Spark 1.4L LT CVT – P682,888
*Chevrolet Spark 1.4L LTZ CVT – P763,888
Next up is the refreshed Trax. Chevrolet's updated crossover was released with relatively less fanfare compared to the Spark, but it has definitely undergone a significant makeover. Gone are the vehicle's chubby proportions, replaced by a more serious, more aggressive overall look highlighted by a sleeker pair of headlights. The cabin features more dark plastics, nicer A/C vents with chrome trim, and updated gauges. The Trax has the same 1.4-liter engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Here are the crossover's new prices:
*Chevrolet Trax 1.4L LS AT - P1,123,888
*Chevrolet Trax 1.4L LT AT - P1,358,888
So there you have it, Chevrolet's newest additions to the local lineup. If you want to see the two cars in the metal, they'll be on display at MIAS 2017 until this Sunday.
