Three years ago SsangYong re-entered the Philippine market with the introduction of the Tivoli, the Korando, and the Rodius. Earlier tonight, the Korean manufacturer officially opened its new Sta. Rosa dealership and introduced its lineup for 2019.

The first model we will feature is the newest arrival to the Philippine market—the SsangYong Rexton.

This newest competitor in the stacked midsize SUV segment packs a 2.2-liter diesel engine capable of 181hp and 420Nm, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission with drive mode selection.

The Rexton comes in two variants: an AWD and a 4x2 RWD. The two are virtually identical under the hood, and both variants come with the same eight-inch infotainment system capable of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, speaker setup, and climate control settings, as well as ABS and EBD. On the other hand, the main differences between the two fall under aesthetics and extra features.

Noticeable features that are exclusive to the higher AWD variant include smart keyless entry, leather seats with premium brown stitchings (only plain leather can be found in the other spec), automatic HID headlamps with adjustable leveling, power adjustment controls and ventilation for its front row seats, and 20" chrome wheels. The 4x2 sports 18-inchers with a diamond cut finish.

With all these features, the Rexton prides itself as one of the SUVs that offers the best bang for the buck in its segment.

The 2.2L 4X4 AT variant is priced at P2,230,000, while the 2.2L 4X4 AT is set at only P1,730,000. If you’re one of those who are worried about parts and serviceability—understandable, since the Sta. Rosa service center really is a bit far from the metro—then you’ll be glad to find out that SsangYong PH also offers at-home maintenance and repairs for its customers. The brand’s innovative Mobile Service vehicle brings a service crew, spare parts, and tools directly to clients. Pretty neat, right?

So is the vehicle worthy of its price tag? Check out more photos of the top-of-the-line model below, and you tell us.
