Philippine automotive industry sales grew for a second month as consumers continued to buy cars to replace vehicles damaged by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
A total of 118,848 automobiles were sold from January to November, 3.7 percent higher than the number of vehicles sold in the same period last year, data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) showed. In November alone the industry sold 12,702 units, 29.5 percent higher than the number of vehicles sold in the same month last year.
"Buyers got to take advantage of the promotions and strong support from auto players as well as banks, most especially for those seeking to replace their flood-damaged vehicles," CAMPI president Elizabeth H. Lee said.
The industry has so far sold 77,111 units of commercial vehicles and 41,737 units of passenger cars this year.
Toyota Motor Philippines continued to dominate the local market for selling 41,293 vehicles from January to November. This figure, however, is 1.7 percent lower than its total sales in the same period last year.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines stood at a far second with 20,815 units sold in the last 11 months. Mitsubishi is also one of the best-performing brands with a 30.2 percent increase in sales from January to November compared with the same months last year.
Honda Cars Philippines continued to hold on to the third spot with 15,838 units sold from January to November.
Other top-sellers in the past 11 months include Hyundai Asia Resources, Isuzu Philippines, Ford Motor Philippines (including Mazda), and Universal Motors.
