Tired of the usual Independence Day activities like flag-raising and parades? Head on to the Ortigas Home Depot on June 12 for the perfect Independence Day gig for car nuts.
More than 100 cars will converge at the Ortigas Home Depot for the first Independence Day Classic and Muscle Car Show organized by Jan Kierulf of Carshow Unlimited.(Check out the gallery below to see what's in store for tomorrow's car show. Photos were taken during the Hot Rod Festival last year, which was also organized by Carshow Unlimited.)
Alex Isip, one of the country's top car restoration experts, will be there along with some of his newly-restored car show-winning works like director Edgar Mortiz's 1967 Mustang GT and a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350. TV funnyman Maverick will also grace the event along with his third-generation Lincoln Continental.
Muscle cars movie fans will also salivate seeing the many different colored iterations of Gone in 60 Seconds' Eleanor, a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500, as well as the 1974 Chevrolet Camaro version of Bumblebee of the Transformers film franchise.
What makes the Independence Day Classic and Muscle Car Show different from shows you see in the malls and convention centers is that the cars won't be roped off, giving the visitors the chance to view the cars up close and--dare we say it--even personal as the car's owners will be there to mingle with them. Lucky visitors may even have their photos taken inside the cars.
Besides the cars and the requisite showcar competition, there will also be a car photoshoot, a V8 treasure hunt, a chili dog and beef cake patty eating contest, a videowall showing clips of classic and muscle cars, live music and DJs and activities.
Fun starts at 3 p.m. Are you going to be there?
