A month after the sketches of the new Kia Rio were released, Kia Motors has revealed the first official photos of the subcompact that that is set to be unveiled during the Geneva International Motor Show.

Preliminary data from Kia showed that the new Rio now sports a fresh grille design as well as a sleeker set of headlamps.

The new Kia Rio is 55mm longer at 4,295mm, and 25mm wider at 1,720mm. Its wheelbase has also expanded by 70mm to 2,570mm. The B-segment car is, however, 15mm shorter than its predecessor with a height of only 1,455mm.

"This new model is a big step forward," Kia Motors director of overseas marketing Soon-Nam Lee said. "The Rio has always been successful, and with this new incarnation we have a car that people will want to buy for its looks."

The new Kia Rio will be offered in different engine options starting with a 1.1-liter diesel unit that generates 69.04hp and carbon dioxide emission from as low as 85 grams per kilometer. Kia is also set to introduce the Rio with a 1.2-liter turbo gasoline direct injection engine in 2012.
