Gumpert Apollo Sport set the fastest record at the Northern Loop of the famed Nurburgring, Sport Auto said.
The Gumpert Apollo Sport's seven minutes and 11.57 seconds run on August 13 is the fastest time set by a road-legal production car in the market today.
German driver Florian Gruber, a GT3 European Championship competitor, reportedly said the supercar "would certainly have gone a little faster" after he completed the run.
The Gumpert Apollo Sport is powered by a 700-horsepower, 4.2-liter, biturbo V8 engine from Audi. It is capable of tackling the zero-to-200kph sprint in 8.9 seconds before topping out at a speed of 360kph.
Gruber and the Gumper Apollo Sport's time broke the 2006 Nurburgring record by 3.32 seconds set by Michael Düchting in a Donkervoort D8 RS06 in 2006.
The Gumpert Apollo was conceived by former Volkswagen executive Roland Gumpert to be a street-legal car and track-ready car. A Gumpert Apollo Sport piloted by the Stig has been on top of Top Gear UK's "Power Lap Board" since July 27, 2008 with a time of 1 minute, 17.1 seconds around the Top Gear Test Track.
