Using his muscles to commit crime

Instead of doing his regular routine of training movie personalities and other VIPs on bodybuilding, a 28-year-old gym instructor will now probably share his skills on health and fitness with jailbirds while killing time. Said hunk was arrested yesterday morning by elements of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group in connection with a car-theft case.

Reports from PNP-HPG Director Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina identified the arrested suspect as Paul Joshua B. Corpuz, a gym instructor at the ABS-CBN branch of Fitness First on Mother Ignacia Avenue in Quezon City. Corpuz was arrested by PNP-HPG operatives led by Senior Inspector Vergel DV Untalan based on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court Branch 212 Judge Rizalina Capco-Umali in connection with a car-theft case filed against him.

According to police reports, Corpuz stole a Honda Civic with license plate number GSV 155 owned by a certain Wendy Puyat on February 12, 2012. Corpuz sold the Civic to a certain Mark A. Bautista, a resident of Batangas. But when the new owner applied for a police clearance for the transfer of ownership at the PNP-HPG Motor Vehicle Clearance Division, authorities found out that the vehicle was included on the list of hot vehicles in the HPG-Vehicle Information Monitoring System, which prompted them to impound the Civic.

Corpuz was later brought to the PNP-HPG detention center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
