TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Subaru marks production milestone with 15 millionth Boxer engine

Fuji Heavy Industries, the manufacturer behind the Subaru brand of cars, is marking a milestone with the production of its 15 millionth horizontally opposed "boxer" engine.

The milestone was achieved 49 years after FHI developed the horizontally opposed water-cooled four-cylinder aluminum engine and adopted it for the Subaru 1000 compact car in May 1966.

The milestone comes only a month after FHI reached the 14-million-unit production of its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which was first featured in the Subaru Leone 4WD Estate launched in September 1972.

According to the Japanese conglomerate, the boxer engine and the Symmetrical AWD system are the core technologies that "underpin Subaru's commitment to safety and driving pleasure."
