Race-car derived but road-legal

Lamborghini has collaborated with Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain to come up with a special-edition sports car: the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition.

A road-legal car based on the Gallardo race car that competes in Lamborghini’s one-make Super Trofeo racing series sponsored by Blancpain, the Gallardo Blancpain Edition makes wide use of carbon fiber to reduce the car’s overall weight and improve its mechanical features. This results in better power-to-weight ratio and reduced total mass for the road-going race car, which means lower carbon dioxide emissions.

As proof of its racing heritage, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition’s rear spoiler and engine cover were derived directly from the race car, ostensibly for maximum stability and optimized ventilation, respectively. The special-edition car is equipped with Skorpius wheels with yellow-painted brake calipers and discs made from carbon-ceramic composite. The matte black paintwork is complemented by external components made of carbon fiber, like the diffuser and mirror casings.

The black-and-yellow theme is carried inside with the entire interior finished in black Alcantara accented with yellow and carbon-fiber trim. The Blancpain logo is also visible on the exterior and on the seats and cockpit in yellow stitching.

Like the Super Trofeo race car, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition is powered by the 5.2-liter 570 hp V10 engine used in the Gallardo Superleggera. Helping to keep the car in control is an all-wheel drive system for maximum traction and stability.

With a weight of 1,340 kilograms making it the lightest road-going model in Lamborghini’s line-up, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition’s power-to-weight ratio is at 2.35 kilograms per horsepower, giving the car a zero to 100kph time of 3.4 seconds. The 200kph mark comes 6.8 seconds later before the car reaches a top speed of 320 kph.

“Lamborghini is extremely happy about its cooperation with Blancpain,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president and chief executive of Automobili Lamborghini. “Each race is a battle of dedication and passion for every single hundredth of a second--something that characterizes both of our brands. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition demonstrates the close bond between our road-going super sports cars and the race car.”
