The Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Office will be handing out 90-day suspensions to motorists who are caught violating road safety laws on social media.
This aggressive course of action was prompted after some content creators went viral for illegal racing, road rage incidents, and other similar safety violations. DOTr secretary Vince Dizon stressed that these 90-day suspensions will be issued swiftly: “No investigation, no hearing, if we see a video with enough proof that you abused traffic rules, your licenses are suspended automatically,” said Dizon.

Dizon then prompted social media users to be more active in reporting posts and other content that display disobedience to safety laws.

According to Republic Act. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, these automatic, three-month suspensions may be within the LTO’s powers, but the complete revocation of a driver’s license will require a formal hearing.
The two transportation agencies have recently committed to reforming the country’s mobility systems with a tighter grip on law enforcement and safety policy. The LTO has stated it wants more present and visible traffic enforcers to keep drivers within speed limits, while the DOTr has rolled out its mandatory drug testing program for PUV drivers.

Dizon also discussed the possibility of forming the Public Transport Safety Board (PTSB), an idea originally proposed by Senator Grace Poe. In addition to supervising land-bound commuting and transportation systems, this agency would also oversee ferry systems and air travel.
