The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (i-ACT) are now implementing the government's PUV Modernization Program in Angeles, Pampanga.
DOTr undersecretary Tim Orbos confirmed this during an interview with GMA News, saying the agency was already conducting operations and coordinating with local government units in the area.
"Tuloy-tuloy po iyan. Hindi po natin pipigilan yan. In fact, sinabi po ng ating Pangulo na talagang ituloy ang pag-modernize ng ating mga sasakyan," Orbos said. "Para sa mga commuter, kawawa na po talaga. Talagang bulok po at mausok na po ang mga sasakyan natin."
During yesterday's "Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok" operations, authorities issued a total of 125 citation tickets and ordinance violation receipts to public utility vehicles (PUV) found not in compliance with emissions standards under the Philippine Clean Air Act. Five jeepneys and six motorcycles were also impounded for lack of a registered franchise.
Perhaps more important, the government agencies were able make it up to inconvenienced commuters. According to the DOTr, a total of 1,836 passengers were able to take the free rides offered by the i-ACT. Were you one of them?
