Just over a month after the October 15 earthquake in the Central Visayas region toppled numerous structures like historical churches in Bohol, the Department of Public Works and Highways has finished constructing two bridges to temporarily replace the damaged Abatan and Tagbuane bridges in the province.
According to the DPWH, the 120-lineal-meter modular steel bridge to temporarily replace the Abatan Bridge was opened on November 23, while the 39-lineal-meter temporary replacement for the Tagbuane Bridge was opened on November 5. The agency added that temporary steel bridges to replace the Moalong Bridge in Loon, and the Tultugan and Desamparados bridges in Calape, should also be open to vehicular traffic by the first week of December. The modular steel bridging materials supposedly cost the DPWH a total of P63.4 million.
Reconstruction of the permanent Abatan and Tagbuane bridges are scheduled to start in April 2014.
