In a video posted by the Department of Public Works and Highways on its official Facebook page, Secretary Vince Dizon can be seen inspecting potholes on the EDSA bus lane along the northbound side of Estrella, Makati. The potholes were said to have been caused by water damage.
The inspection occurred during a period of heavy rain, which exposed water accumulation on the bus lane. As part of Phase One of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project, the newly laid asphalt was supposed to provide motorists with a smoother road surface and remove the multiple potholes present before the repairs.
Dizon says that there was no anticipation for the water accumulation on the bus lane, explaining that the bus-lane barriers did not let water through to drain properly. He added that ideally, a drainage system along the middle of the road where the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is would have been ideal.

“Ang nangyayari, since lowest point ito ng EDSA Rehab Phase One, lahat ng tubig, bumababa dito, naiiwan,” said Dizon. “Wala kasi tayong drainage dito. Ideally sana, may drainage ka dito sa gitna para nagde-drain siya dito. Pero wala eh. MRT na yan eh.”
Dizon added that the repairs will be charged to the contractor with no cost to the government. In the meantime, the bus-lane barriers will be spaced out to let water through, with permanent repairs being scheduled for when the weather allows.
