As part of its Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), the government has officially launched the Modern PUV Caravan. Hino Motors Philippines (HMP) continues its support for the program through its participation in the festivities earlier today.
The Japanese manufacturer will be showcasing its modern PUVs—the Jeepney Class II and III—throughout the various legs of the caravan. These modern jeepneys are Euro 4-powered and comply with the guidelines set by the Philippine National Standards. They provide comfortable seating and boast several safety features, including a speed limiter, CCTV cameras, dash cams, and GPS.
“We are honored to be part of this meaningful program which seeks to gradually improve our national transportation system,” said HMP chairman Vicente Mills Jr. “It has always been our vision to see a more connected community where people and goods go where they need to go in the most efficient manner, and we are positive that this effort brings us all closer to achieving that.
“HMP is committed and well-positioned to support this PUV modernization initiative, and we all look forward to the opportunities that this will open up for our local transportation industry and its various stakeholders.”
HMP has already turned over more than 100 units of its modern PUVs to transport cooperatives in Taguig, Pateros, Makati, Quezon City, and Iloilo.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) led the event, which was held today, July 4, 2019, at the Clark Economic Zone in Pampanga.
“The caravan launch today is a strong manifestation of the collaborative effort of private and public partners in the implementation of the PUV Modernization Program. We intend to push this program as far and as fast as possible, and that won’t happen without the support of all the stakeholders,” said LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III in his speech.
The first phase of the caravan will run until the first week of August, reaching different cities in the northern regions of the country. A total of around 30 legs will be held all over the Philippines until February 2020.
