Undas is still a week away, but the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has already begun its preparations for the upcoming holiday period. Task Force Special Operations members are currently clearing roads, while Metro Parkway Clearing Group staff are taking care of the areas around major cemeteries.
“We leave the responsibility of cleaning inside cemeteries to local government units. We are also calling on the public to keep cemeteries clean and tidy,” says MMDA GM Jojo Garcia. He also noted that MMDA chairman Danny Lim has declared a ‘No day off, no absent’ policy for traffic personel from October 27 to November 3.
The major cemeteries that the MMDA will monitor during Undas include Manila North in Manila, Manila South in Makati, Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina, Bagbag Public Cemetery in Quezon City, and Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque.
Starting October 27, the government body will launch ‘Oplan Undas 2018,’ which will see more than 2,000 traffic enforcers manning the streets to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. The MMDA will also suspend number coding on the non-working holidays of November 1 and 2. Garcia encourages motorists to memorize important traffic rerouting schemes in their respective areas.
