The Manila North Tollways Corporation, the concessionaire for the North Luzon Expressway, plans to expand the 90km highway by turning the wide, grass-filled island separating the northbound and southbound lanes in Pampanga into additional lanes.
This was revealed by MNTC president and chief executive Rodrigo Franco at the recent launch of the NLEXcellence Safety Awards.
According to Franco, the plan includes expanding the section between the Santa Rita and San Fernando exits from two to three lanes both ways, and between the Dau and Santa Ines exits from one to two lanes both ways.
Asked how much the expansion would cost and how long it would take to construct, Franco replied that it would cost from P2.5 to P4 billion, and that it could be completed within two years\' time.
