The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) is undergoing a series of upgrades, including enhanced CCTV coverage, additional speed cameras, and upgraded computer systems for improved data processing.
All in all, these upgrades will cost around P200 million. NLEX Corporation, operator of SCTEX, believes that these upgrades are integral to the safety and reliability of the expressway. NLEX president and general manager Luis Reñon added that these improvements should also help enforce road safety.

“The system enhancement program in SCTEX is essential not only for ensuring faster and smoother travel, but also for enforcing stricter road discipline,” said Reñon. “These upgrades will significantly improve the safety and reliability of the road network, boosting motorists’ confidence.”

NLEX Corporation has also started an annual pavement repair program for SCTEX. This will ensure the roadworthiness of the 94km expressway year-round, while allowing other road projects to take place.

Currently, NLEX and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) are repairing the Pasig-Portero Bridge, and routine maintenance is still in full force. The latter includes tree-trimming, signage repair, repainting, and drainage cleaning.
Last September, NLEX, the BCDA, and the Toll Regulatory Board issued the final planned fare hike on SCTEX, completing a three-phase price increase that started in 2020. The higher fares previously contributed to the expressway’s RFID system upgrades and the completion of the New Clark City Interchange.
