The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Department of Transportation and Communications, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will reportedly field 50 "express buses" on EDSA that will only stop at their pick-up point and destination "to encourage car owners to leave their vehicles at home and take public transportation."
"The buses will travel from one point on EDSA to another without any stops," Inquirer.net quoted MMDA assistant general manager Emerson Carlos as saying. "For example, the bus will come from the Ayala business center bound for EDSA North Avenue. It will travel to its destination without stopping at any point."
To be launched within the first quarter of 2015, the program will utilize units from bus companies that already have a franchise to ply the EDSA route. The fare rates and bus routes, however, are still under study. Carlos added that the agencies will determine if more buses will be added to the program after its launch.
