In a recent report published by www.entrepreneur.com.ph, it was announced that the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, also known as the Rockwell Bridge, which connects Estrella Street in Rockwell, Makati to Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong, will be closed to traffic this week.
There's some good news. That closure has been postponed to a later date. "Our team just had a meeting with Rockwell and it was decided to not proceed with the bridge closure today, so as to give them more time to disseminate the info to their residents and stakeholders, " said Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago.
However, the bridge closure is still happening. The target date for the beginning of the work is on September 26 or 29. The MMDA is still waiting on word from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the actual date. "Mag-uusap pa sila ulet, so technically speaking 26 or 29, ang inaabangan nateng mga araw," she added.
The Rockwell bridge is a popular shortcut for motorists who want to skip EDSA traffic in the Guadalupe area. With Christmas fast approaching, this 30-month rehabiliation/reconstruction project will surely have a ripple effect.
At least now we have a few more days to plan our routes accordingly, or at least mentally prepare ourselves for the traffic. Watch this space for more updates.
Do you think closing Rockwell Bridge during the Christmas Season (which has already begun in the Philipines) is a good idea? Take our poll below.
