Tomorrow, November 20, Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in the country for a two-day state visit upon the invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte. And as is always the case whenever our country plays host to international events and state visits, numerous rerouting schemes will be implemented, and the usual Metro Manila traffic situation will get even worse.
The Manila Police District (MPD) has thus released an advisory on roads to avoid and alternate routes to take. Do note, too, that President Duterte and President Xi Jinping will be at Rizal Park on November 20 for a wreath-laying activity, so the following road closures will take effect tomorrow from 6am:
Roxas Boulevard: north- and southbound lanes from Katigbak Drive to P. Ocampo Street?
Bonifacio Drive: north- and southbound lanes from Anda Circle to Katigbak Drive
P. Burgos Street: east- and westbound lanes from Lagusnilad to Roxas Boulevard
Finance Road: east- and westbound lanes from Taft Avenue to P. Burgos Street
T.M. Kalaw Avenue: east- and westbound lanes from M.H. del Pilar Street to Roxas Boulevard

Motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes:

All vehicles coming from Jones Bridge, MacArthur Bridge, and Quezon Bridge going to Roxas Boulevard via P. Burgos Street shall go straight to Taft Avenue to point of destination.
All vehicles coming from Ayala Boulevard shall turn left or right to Taft Avenue to point of destination.
All vehicles coming from the westbound lane of T.M. Kalaw Avenue shall turn left to M.H. del Pilar Street to point of destination.
All vehicles coming from the westbound lane of President Quirino Avenue shall turn left to Adriatico Street to point of destination.
Lastly, here are the prescribed truck routes:
All cargo trucks traveling on Osmeña Highway should turn right to President Quirino Avenue, go straight ahead to Nagtahan Bridge, A.H. Lacson Avenue, Yuseco Street, crossing Jose Abad Santos Avenue and straight to Raxabago and Capulong Streets to point of destination.
All cargo trucks intending to utilize the southbound truck route coming from the pier area should take the northbound lane of R-10, then turn right to Capulong Street straight to Yuseco Street and A. H. Lacson Avenue to point of destination.
Steer clear of these areas over the next two days if possible, and share this information with family, friends, and colleagues so they can avoid the chaos as much as they can.
