Suzuki Motor Corp. has released the first official photos of the new Swift subcompact hatchback, which is scheduled to first go on-sale in the United Kingdom in a few months.
Suzuki said the latest-generation Swift is its "latest world strategic model" developed with enhancements in styling, impact safety, driving performance, and handling on top of its improved fuel consumption and significantly lower emissions.
The new Suzuki Swift is slightly larger than the outgoing model, being 90mm longer, 5mm wider, and 10mm taller. Its wheelbase is longer by 50mm while both front and rear tracks increased by 10mm and 5mm, respectively.
To go with the larger track, the new Suzuki Swift's wheels have a larger diameter shod with lower profile tires aimed at improving on the already impressive handling of its predecessor.
The new Suzuki Swift's bodyshell is made of higher-strength steel that is lighter yet stiffer than the one in the previous model. Suzuki said the Swift's new body design "has also helped (to) improve impact safety for pedestrians as well as occupants."
Inside, the new Swift offers a more dynamic feel, thanks to its black interior accented by silver touches throughout the car.
Only the 1.2-liter engine that produces 94hp and 118Nm of torque will be initially offered in the UK when the Swift goes on sale there later this year. A 1.3-liter diesel engine will also be available in 2011.
