No number coding from April 19 to 22

Motorists advised to avoid EDSA and take alternate routes
Apr 19, 2011

It's already Holy Week and to avoid inconveniencing motorists who are either driving to or from the provinces during this Lenten season, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has decided to suspend the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), or the number-coding scheme as it's more popularly known, from April 19 to 22.

"We're also expecting that public transport terminals will have their hands full accommodating thousands of commuters. By allowing the public to freely use their vehicles, this will help lessen the strain on them," said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino.

With more vehicles expected to take the roads, particularly EDSA, Tolentino is advising the public to use the Mabuhay Lanes, a series of alternate routes that the agency designated last December. The Mabuhay Lanes start at both the north and south entry points of EDSA. To advise motorists, the MMDA has put up road signs designating exactly where the Mabuhay lanes are.

For southbound motorists coming from the north, they may use McArthur Highway, turn right on Samson Road, take C-4/Letre and then the R-10 highway to get to A. Bonifacio and Roxas Boulevard to get to their destination. For motorists coming from the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) they can exit at various points, most importantly at the newly constructed Mindanao Avenue access ramp.

From northbound motorists coming from the south, the Mabuhay lanes start at both the Coastal Road and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

3. Turn left on Congressional Avenue;
4. Turn right to Mindanao Avenue; and then
5. Take the Mindanao-NLEX link to their destination.

Or

For the south of Luzon, the alternate route depends on their destination.

To Rizal province:

1. From Bicutan interchange, take Dr. A. Santos Avenue; and
2. Head straight ahead on the C-6 to reach their destination.

To Cavite:

1. From South Superhighway, take South Station Exit;
2. Then go straight ahead and take Daang Hari to their destination.

To Tagaytay:

From South Superhighway, motorists are advised to take either the Sta. Rosa Exit or the Greenfield Exit.
