CATS Motors, Inc. has finally unveiled the SLS AMG and the number of DSLRs and camera phones that happily clicked away at the car during the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show.
As Mercedes-AMG’s first independently-developed vehicle, the supercar grand tourer highlights the company's more than 40-year history. Noted as a famed tuner of Mercedes-Benz cars before the German carmaker acquired it completely in 2005, AMG has now become its performance brand, with the SLS AMG as the vehicle that demonstrates its development expertise.
Going from a standstill to 100kph in just 3.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 317kph, the SLS AMG is in true supercar territory. While its 300SL predecessor’s gullwings doors made ingress and egress into the vehicle akin to a contortionist’s feat, the SLS AMG’s similar doors were designed for ease of access, with the door opening angle at 70 degrees and the entry aperture between the open doors and the upper edge of the door sills measuring no less than 1.08 meters. Most importantly, the distance between the road surface and the door sills is a very low 45 centimeters while the seat is mounted just 368 millimeters above the road surface.
Inside, the plush black designo leather interior comes as standard while carbon-fiber trim and brushed aluminum accents highlight the center console. Other options that are available for the SLS AMG are the Performance steering wheel in leather and alcantara and the 11-speaker Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system.
