Former Universal Motors Corporation's (UMC) chief operating officer and ex- Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines (CAMPI) president Elizabeth Lee is not the next Bureau of Customs commissioner after all. President Benigno Aquino III has reportedly said he has yet to appoint the next Customs chief.
As posted by GMA News via Twitter, Aquino "belies appointing resigned CAMPI, UMC chief operating officer Elizabeth Lee as new Bureau of Customs Chief."
If Lee isn't headed to the Bureau of Customs, why did she resign from her posts in UMC and CAMPI?
An unfounded rumor that has been going around the automotive industry, though, is that Lee's departure from UMC happened after her uncle, Richard Lee, eased her out of the company. The elder Lee is no stranger to the industry as he owns the local distributors of Volvo, Hyundai and Chevrolet vehicles in the Philippines.
If this is true, the younger Lee's plan is anyone's guess.
