Is anyone else getting a little tired of the constant custom, one-off liveries in Formula 1? Heck, at this point the teams may as well design a new look for every single race. At least that would keep the art departments busy.
Anyway, before we get too ‘old man yells at cloud’ about it, here are three ‘unique’ designs for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix. First up is Sauber, which claims it has gone for a “special livery inspired by Miami’s vibrant art scene,” although to us it just looks like they’ve scraped a bit of the green off the car in an effort to save a few pounds.
The team’s C45 will apparently be “transformed into a bold canvas of modern art,” but if it’s that great, why wasn’t it the livery Sauber settled on for the full season?

And then we come to Ferrari. Last year in Miami, it added a blue touch to its cars to celebrate the old Maranello Concessionaires liveries and the North American Racing Team cars of legendary importer Luigi Chinetti. This year, it’s celebrating title sponsor HP. Oh dear.
Still, the white and blue look is apparently “applied using new, co-engineered technologies that will pave the way for even more striking designs in the future.” This is good news, as is the fact that the wrap is PVC-free and fully recyclable. It’s also 17% thinner than previous Ferrari wraps and 14% lighter, so expect to see a Ferrari one-two on Sunday. Maybe.

Last but not least is Force India—sorry, Racing Bulls. The Red Bull junior team has gone for a wildly bright magenta livery that’s apparently meant to draw attention to a new flavor of the popular energy drink. We’ll probably spend most of the weekend getting them confused with the Alpines.
