With the national government preparing to mark the 27th anniversary of the People Power Revolution on February 25, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has announced the schedule of the roads it will close from February 23 to 24.
At 9pm on February 23, the westbound lane of White Plains Drive will be closed from Temple Drive to EDSA to make way for the erection of the stage for the "Run for Juan" marathon. The eastbound lane, however, will be opened for two-way traffic flow.
At 12:01am on February 24, EDSA's three inner lanes from Corinthians to Camp Aguinaldo's Gate 3 will be closed to make way for the construction of a platform by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
At 1am on February 24, the entire White Plains Drive will be closed for the marathon. At 5am, the entire northbound lanes of the EDSA Ortigas flyover--as well as the service road from Guadix Road to the EDSA Shrine, the EDSA northbound bus lanes, and the third lane from Julia Vargas to Guadix Road--will also be closed.
From Ortigas Avenue to Santolan, the entire northbound section of EDSA will be closed, also from 5am onward. As such, northbound vehicles are advised to either turn right on Julia Vargas or to take the EDSA Ortigas flyover going to Greenhills to reach their destination.
By 8am, the MMDA hopes to open up the White Plains Drive blockades, with the EDSA blockades opening up a few hours later at 11am.
Take our advice: It's best to stay away from EDSA until the afternoon of the 24th just to be sure.
