One of the videos shown during the Top Gear magazine conference in Hong Kong was a short clip taken from the upcoming US version of your favorite motoring TV show. As you know, the initial deal with NBC fell through, but a new arrangement has been struck with the History Channel, which will now air the resuscitated project. More important, the American version of Top Gear has finalized its list of hosts--not one of whom is named Jay Leno.
The three hosts of Top Gear USA are Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood. Of course, there are valid concerns among the Top Gear faithful as to whether these three Yanks will be able to duplicate the chemistry of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. It’s too early to tell, but at least--judging by this short footage--the production value seems very promising.
Top Gear managing director Adam Waddell said during the conference that it is his hope that the American version will someday be even bigger than the original UK version. Impossible dream? Be sure to watch the video first before you put in your comment below.
