Sepang, Malaysia--Shell has declared Thai actress Alicia Ann Laisuthruklai as "Asia's smartest FuelSaver" after besting 11 other contestants in a fuel economy run.
Laisuthruklai won the challenge by driving a 1.8-liter Honda Civic with automatic transmission for 15.648 kilometers with just one liter of Shell FuelSave gasoline.
"I am going to take the message back to my country and tell them we can really do something to save on fuel," Laisuthruklai said after she won the competition. Shell is giving her a brand-new car when she goes back to Bangkok.
The second and third most fuel-efficient drivers in the competition were Malaysians Jayson Lai and Josephine Lee.
Laisuthruklai and the other representatives from six countries in Asia underwent a fuel-saving bootcamp in Malaysia with John and Helen Taylor, who have 85 fuel-efficiency world records. The fuel economy run is part of the first-ever Shell Eco-marathon Asia which focuses on raising fuel-economy awareness on both the development and retail side of mobility.
The Philippines was represented by Sandre Roque and Don Eleazar Balboa (see photo below), who were declared as the Philippines' smartest drivers after a month-long online search and a fuel-economy run.
