According to reports from national dailies, Toyota Motor Philippines vice chairman Alfred Ty said the company has just received the go-signal for the local distribution of the Prius from the Toyota head office in Japan.
Toyota earlier said the Prius, a hybrid electric car, is not ready for the Philippine market due to local road conditions.
Ty was quoted saying, however, that "things have changed" particularly for the hybrid.
"There's a market for that here, that's why we're bringing it here," Ty added.
The Prius made its commercial debut in Japan in 1997 before it was sold globally in 2001.
