As far as popular local riders and motorcycle enthusiasts go, veteran journalist Kuya Kim Atienza is one of the most hardcore and legit ones around. His knowledge of two wheels is as enviable as his collection, and he definitely has the skills to handle complicated vintage bikes and powerful modern machines.
But even someone with his riding credentials doesn’t automatically qualify as a motorcycle taxi rider, as he himself discovered firsthand when he took on Move It’s rider onboarding process.

Move It uses a six-part program to thoroughly screen, assess, and clear all riders applying to join its motorcycle-taxi platform. In the first two phases, applicants must submit the complete documentary requirements, including NBI, police, and CIBI clearance, plus the results of drug and health tests. Their motorcycles need to pass rigorous roadworthiness checks, too.
If they get passing scores, they can then proceed with the skills assessment, which evaluates riding abilities in various conditions with a pillion passenger. Solo riding proficiency isn’t enough here, obviously—applicants need to show that they are capable of operating a motorcycle safely with a backrider on board.

Once they clear those three steps, they still need to go through training and orientation. This is conducted in a classroom setup and covers road-safety protocols, passenger service, and app navigation. Annual retraining is mandatory for Move It riders, as are drug and health tests every six months.
Those who make it this far will then be given activated accounts on the platform and—most important of all—the official Move It high-grade safety gear.

Kuya Kim and Move It have also unveiled a new reporting feature called ‘I-Sumbong Mo sa Move It.’ Through this feedback channel on Facebook Messenger, Move It passengers can report safety-related concerns and driver-focused experience more easily. In-app ratings and the ‘Report an Issue’ feature are still available, but the new channel is another way that users can provide immediate feedback to the company.
Move It is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. Grab users can also download it by clicking the ‘Try Move It’ icon on the Grab app.
