“Ilang alak hindi ko ininom makaipon lang ng pang-bili ng cellphone mo na matagal mo ng hinihingi,” Edwin Bayson quips in a now-viral Facebook post published on his profile last June 12.
With all the negative things you see these days on social media, you really can’t help think about deactivating your account, uninstalling the app, and freeing yourself from toxicity. So seeing a wholesome post like this get 2,100 comments and 37,000 shares is nothing short of refreshing.
According to a post by the Philippine Star, Tatay Edwin is a pahinante or a delivery truck driver from Cavite. As a graduation gift to his son, he started saving up P5,600 for four months in order to buy an Oppo A5s smartphone. He may have had to cut down on some wants according to his caption, but this dad’s sacrifice melted the hearts of Facebook users as well as companies including Oppo Philippines.
The smartphone brand reached out to the family of Mr. Bayson and gifted them Oppo and Rockspace products including an Oppo Reno 3, a pair of Oppo Enco Q1 wireless earphones, a Rockspace Muse bluetooth speaker, and a Rockspace power bank.
“We wanted to do this for Mr. Bayson as our simple way of expressing our gratitude to the Filipinos. Also, it’s not every day that we get to celebrate fathers and their sacrifices for their families, and with the selfless act of Mr. Bayson, we just felt that he deserved this and more,” said Simon Xie, OPPO Philippines Territory Manager for South West Luzon.
