Some of you might be familiar with Hongqi. It’s one of the oldest Chinese automakers and serves as the top luxury marque in its home market. It was also introduced in the country recently with a sedan and an electric crossover.

The reason we bring that brand up is because of a recent viral video in China. In a bid to prove its toughness, a few folks decided it would be best to slam a fiery wrecking ball into it.

Wait, what?

Yes, you read that right. Granted, it’s over the top, but anything to prove a point, right?

Hongqi HS5

The model used in this, um, test was the HS5 crossover. Introduced in China in 2019, it was recently updated to incorporate the brand’s new design language. But this particular HS5’s pristine bodywork didn’t stay that way for long.

By the way, the Hongqi HS5 isn't available in the Philippines, at least for now. But if you're curious about it, here are a few stats. At 4,760mm long, it competes in the luxury compact crossover class, putting it in the same playing field as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. It uses a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine that's good for 252hp mated to an eight speed automatic. Prices for it range from 183,800 to 249,800 yuan, or about P1.43-M to P1.94M.

But aside from the wrecking ball (which has spikes, by the way), the Hongqi crossover was subjected to even more torture. As to what other things they did to it, check out the video below.
